A WORD FOR MEDICAL ACADAMIC BODIES IN SRI LANKA.

I have attended numerous functions in Sri Lankan medical acadameic bodies, sessions, dinners orations etc.
Recently I attended a similar function in UK by invitation.
I found a remarkable differerance. We could improve.
They commenced on schedule and concluded on schedule.
The council was small. The Councils in Sri Lankan academic bodies are just like Sri Lankan Cabinet.
There was no singing of National Anthem. We are preoccupied with our National Anthem!
There was no lighting oil lamp with the great grand mother of past past president too taking part!
The chief guest was there till majority of the guests left after the dinner. He freely mingled with all the participants. In Sri Lanka the chief guest more often than not leaves after his address.
They wre very curteous to invitees. They were wellcomed personally on arrival. They wre helped with orientation inside the premises, and was asked to feel free to walk aroundthe place and to have a look at archieves etc.

AT LAST A JOB WELL DONE

Recently a passenger bus collided with a truck 100 km south of capital and the bus caught fire.Twenty five people died. Many bodies were charred as all exits of the bus got obtructed as it toppled obstructing them.
The police and the medico legal experts form the closest medical school established the identity of all deceased within a fortnight.
The reason for success, which is usually not the rule but exception in the this country ,was that no politician was involved in the process and no politician had vested interest in the matter.
